Hundreds of disabled children will have their lives changed as a result of the AUD 263.000 raised by Sydney Airport’s Community Christmas Giving Appeal.
Sydney Airport Community Christmas Giving Appeal raised a record $263,000 this year for Variety, a children’s Charity. Raised funds go towards equipment, grants and scholarships for Australian children and families in need.
“This is the second year that we have partnered with Variety – the Children’s Charity for our Christmas appeal and we are thrilled to announce that the initiative raised almost $263.000,” Sydney Airport managing director and chief executive officer Kerrie Mather said.
“The six-week appeal kicks off the festive season at Sydney Airport, with our terminals filled with Christmas cheer, entertainment and visits from Santa and his elves,” she said. “The airport community again rallied together to support a worthy cause and we would like to thank our airline partners, other on airport business partners, passengers, the general public, other airport stakeholders and the volunteers who contributed.”
Raised funds will go towards 13 scholarships to children in Sydney who are disadvantaged or living with a disability, vehicle modifications for four families to make their car wheelchair accessible, and the purchase of wheelchairs and walking frames for disabled children.
“The Sydney Airport Community Christmas Giving Appeal has generated an incredible result which will significantly impact the lives of kids in our community who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs,” Chief executive officer of Variety – the Children’s Charity Tam Johnston said.
“With the help of the airport and its community, we have already been able to help 31 families in need through the provision of scholarships, individual equipment and vehicle modifications,” she added. “We’re looking forward to helping many more kids in need over the course of the year, thanks to the support of the airport.”
Sydney Airport and Variety will host an event in March to present the grants. “We look forward to meeting the Variety families who will benefit from the generosity of all those who helped make the Sydney Airport Community Christmas Giving Appeal such a success,” Kerrie Mather said.
